Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has shed light on what he refers to as the behind-the-scenes dynamics during the #EndSARS protests, particularly concerning Afrobeat artist Davido.

In a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, he noted that while the movement had its leaders, the government was uneasy about those it couldn’t manipulate.

“#EndSARS had leaders, but the issue was that the government preferred not to have it led by individuals they couldn’t control,” he stated.

Sowore specifically mentioned Davido, highlighting his active participation in meetings throughout the protests.

He claimed that the situation shifted when Davido traveled to Abuja for a meeting with former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

“Davido was present at every #EndSARS meeting. However, when he arrived in Abuja to meet with the IGP, he was informed that they wanted to investigate him regarding the murder of one of his aides.

“By the time he reached the meeting, he said, ‘I didn’t come to Abuja to protest,’” he added.

This revelation has sparked renewed discussions about the #EndSARS movement, a 2020 protest campaign in Nigeria aimed at combating police brutality, particularly the actions of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
