Amid rising concerns over escalating unrest in the oil-rich Ogboinbiri Community, the Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Hon. Target Isaiah Segibo, has called on youths to shun violence and embrace peace for the sake of development and progress.
Speaking passionately during a town hall meeting with community leaders and young people on Sunday, Hon. Segibo stressed that no meaningful development can take place in a society plagued by internal strife. He urged the people of Ogboinbiri in Bayelsa State to put an end to all forms of conflict and instead channel their energy into positive ventures that will uplift the community.
The Council Chairman condemned the lingering communal crisis that has crippled socio-economic activities in Ogboinbiri over the years, describing it as “avoidable” and “counterproductive.” He emphasized that the local government will no longer tolerate acts of lawlessness or sabotage, warning that those who take the law into their hands will face the full wrath of the law.
Segibo further noted that the Southern Ijaw Council is committed to restoring peace and normalcy, adding that the recent violence has significantly slowed down development and driven fear among residents and investors.

In a move to curb rising insecurity, the Council also announced an immediate ban on boat operations across Southern Ijaw waterways from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM daily. The restriction, according to a statement issued by Mr. Ayebaitari Job Easterday, Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, is aimed at enhancing security and preventing night-time criminal activities. He urged boat operators, commuters, and members of the Maritime Workers Union to comply with the directive for the safety of all.
Meanwhile, Chief Security Officer of Ogboinbiri, Mr. Inimotimi Amos, expressed appreciation to Hon. Segibo for his swift intervention. He assured that the community would support the peace initiative and collaborate with government authorities to restore harmony within and beyond their borders.
Security agencies have already swung into action, arresting five suspects linked to the latest crisis. Those in custody include Azazi Isaac, Fidelis Eseduo, Edubamodei Victor Edugo, Christian Emoladei, and Cameroun Kemeseigha, as investigations continue.
