The Southeast Development Youth Stakeholders Forum (SEDYSF), a coalition of youth groups in Nigeria’s southeastern region, has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to appoint Senator Rochas Okorocha as Chairman of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC).
At a press conference in Abuja, SEDYSF leaders, including President Comrade John Uba and Secretary Ambassador Ugokwe Ugokwe, emphasized Okorocha’s qualifications, hailing him as the ideal candidate to steer the commission towards fulfilling its mandate.
The youth coalition cited Okorocha’s extensive political experience, transformative leadership as former Imo State governor, and his commitment to regional development as reasons for their endorsement.
“Senator Okorocha has the expertise and vision to address the Southeast’s pressing issues, including economic inequalities, infrastructure deficits, and social challenges,” stated Ugokwe.
They praised his legacy in education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, noting that his tenure as governor brought significant progress to Imo State.
The group stressed the Southeast’s untapped potential, pointing to its abundant natural resources, skilled workforce, and cultural heritage. However, they argued that visionary leadership, like that of Okorocha, is essential to harnessing these strengths.
“Okorocha’s leadership could attract investments, bridge infrastructure gaps, and create sustainable development for the Southeast,” Uba added.

SEDYSF lauded the establishment of the Southeast Development Commission as a landmark move towards national unity and regional advancement.
“We commend President Tinubu and the National Assembly for making this long-awaited commission a reality,” said Ugokwe, while also praising Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, for his role in its creation.
The forum appealed to Okorocha to accept the appointment if offered, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the commission effectively.
“His leadership will ensure the SEDC fulfills its mission to transform the Southeast and reposition it for prosperity,” they said.
SEDYSF also reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s administration, highlighting its dedication to policies that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
The Southeast Development Commission was recently signed into law to address socio-economic and infrastructural challenges in the region. It is tasked with driving strategic initiatives across the southeastern states to foster growth and development.
