A robbery attempt along the Abuja–Kaduna Highway was successfully foiled by soldiers on Tuesday after receiving a distress call while on a routine patrol.
The soldiers serving with Sector 1 of ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’ conducted the operation, according to a statement signed on Wednesday by the acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Lt. Col. Shuaib Umar.
The incident, the statement said, happened on Tuesday, when troops on regular patrol received a distress call about an ongoing robbery attack near Nasarawan Doka.
Umar said upon receipt of the information, the soldiers mobilised to the location and engaged the criminals, effectively neutralising the threat.
The army disclosed further that during the encounter, one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Zayyanu, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, while other members of the criminal gang fled the scene.
He said the soldiers pursued the fleeing criminals but made no further arrests, adding that the suspect who was arrested will be handed over to the relevant security agency upon completion of investigations.
