Activist and author, Dele Farotimi has been appointed as the national organising secretary of Afenifere, a decision confirmed during a general meeting held at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s residence in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.
This appointment follows Farotimi’s involvement in a legal dispute stemming from allegations in his book titled: “Nigeria and its criminal justice system,” which had led to his detention and subsequent release on bail.
Netizens have reacted positively on social media platfoms to this development, with many congratulating Farotimi on his new role.
Some netizens highlight his commitment to addressing socio-economic and political issues in the society, emphasizing his work as a political activist and his courageous stance against corruption and misconduct.
Others however, expressed concerns about the implications of this appointment, suggesting that it may compromise his integrity and respect among non-Yorubas, cautioning that he might be silenced by unseen political influences within Afenifere.
On X @yinkadlb said: “Rewards for being outspoken and fearless about voicing concerns about socio-economic and political issues etc. He’s already a tried and tested political activist, with flair for exposing major ills of society with reference to corruption, politicians’ misconducts etc. Truly deserved.”
On the same social media platform, @Kikohennesy said that “this is a bridge that’s long overdue. Tribe, is a colonial installation that hinders the nation’s progress. It needs to be dismantled in order to uplift the country and unite every union namely: Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Arewa, Afeniferè etc.”
Similarly, an X user @D-ololade highlighted Farotimi’s commitment to addressing socio-economic and political issues, emphasizing his work as a political activist and his courageous stance against corruption and misconduct.

“Accepting this appointment is like drinking from a poisoned chalice; he’ll lose whatever respect and recognition non -Yorubas have for him and he’ll be silenced by powers that fund and run the Afenifere from the shadows for their political interests,” he said.
His position was supported by another X user, @Obinnachris, who expressed concerns about the implications of the appointment, suggesting that it may compromise his integrity and respect among non-Yorubas, cautioning that he might be silenced by unseen political influences within Afenifere.
He said: “Farotimi is a living icon with zero fear, his book has drawn the Nigeria state on long hidden truth on the criminality in the judicial system and how most prominent icons have been corrupt to the system. Commonly, Nigeria has no hope for justice system anymore.”
Overall, the reactions reflect a mix of support and apprehension regarding Farotimi’s future within the organization and the broader political landscape.
