The Taraba State Police Command has a new leader as Commissioner of Police, Bretet Emmanuel Simon, officially takes over from his predecessor, Chukwudi Ariekpere, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).
A seasoned law enforcement officer with over 30 years of experience, Simon, according to the release issued out of journalists bu the command’s Public Relations Officer (PP$O), James Leshen, hails from Garkawa in Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State.
His career in the Nigeria Police Force began on May 18, 1992, when he was enlisted as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (C/ASP).
Simon, according to the statement, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Imo State University, Owerri.

He has served in various capacities across multiple states, gaining expertise in operations, investigations, and administration.
According to the release, Simon has also undergone several professional training programs both in Nigeria and abroad. These include courses at the Police Staff College in Jos and specialized conflict resolution training at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre in Ghana.
Simon has pledged to uphold professionalism, ensure public safety, and adopt a people-friendly approach to policing. He also reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption in alignment with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The Taraba State Police Command has urged residents to cooperate with the new commissioner as he works to strengthen security and maintain law and order in the state.
