A member of the House of Representatives representing the Hadejia, Auyo, and Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, Rep. Ibrahim Auyo, has alleged that lawmakers pay between ₦1 million to ₦3 million before they can raise motions, present bills, or petitions during plenary.

Rep. Auyo, who is also known as ‘Kamfani,’ made these statements in a viral video while speaking in Hausa, in response to criticisms from constituents.

He refuted allegations that other lawmakers draft motions based on the needs of their constituents, asserting instead that financial incentives drive legislative processes at the National Assembly.

“Since I joined the National Assembly, it is not true that anyone has written a motion based on the needs of their people for presentation in the House.

“That is completely false. If anyone disagrees, they should come forward and challenge me,” he stated.

“Even bills and petitions require payment. You must pay ₦3 million, ₦2 million, or ₦1 million for them to be read in the House. After presenting the bill, you need to lobby over 360 lawmakers to gain support for it,” Rep. Auyo stated.

The lawmaker also rejected claims that he has neglected youth empowerment in his constituency, asserting that most of his projects have directly benefited young people.

“Anyone who says the youth have not been supported is merely expressing their personal opinion, as that is not accurate.

“Those who have benefited know the truth. You are not God, and you cannot please everyone or be fair to all.

“Naturally, not everyone will receive or benefit from the distribution. I handle the distributions myself, and 80 percent of what I distribute goes to the youth.

“Regarding the motorcycles, water pumps, and cars I distributed, the youth have benefited from these.

“However, once I give them these items, they often sell something that cost me ₦300,000 for just ₦120,000 or ₦150,000,” Rep. Auyo said
