The Imo State Police Command has denied having the missing president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, in custody, as fears grow over his sudden disappearance in Owerri on Saturday night.
Eyewitness reports claim that seven unidentified gunmen, dressed in black, stormed Igboayaka’s residence at Works Layout, Owerri, in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV, forcefully taking him away. Since then, all attempts by family, friends, and members of the OYC to reach him have failed, as his phone lines remain switched off.
A family source revealed growing anxiety over the abduction, stating that repeated efforts to contact him immediately after the incident proved futile. “Since this sad news broke, attempts by teeming members of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, family members, friends, and associates to ascertain his whereabouts have failed, as all his lines were switched off immediately after the ugly incident,” the source disclosed.

The shocking disappearance has sparked an outcry, with the Igbo National Council president, Chilos Godsent, urging security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Police Force, to launch a full-scale investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
Amid mounting speculation, the Imo State Police Command has officially distanced itself from the incident. In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, categorically denied having Igboayaka in custody but assured the public that an investigation was underway to track him down.
Okoye further appealed to the public to provide any useful information that could help authorities identify and apprehend those behind the abduction. As tension rises across the region, the disappearance of the Ohanaeze Youth Council leader remains shrouded in mystery, leaving many questions unanswered.
