Vice President Kashim Shettima has vowed that those responsible for the recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri will be decisively confronted, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to tackle terrorism in the North-East.

Shettima made the declaration on Wednesday during a visit to victims receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The visit followed Monday’s multiple explosions in the Borno State capital, which left more than 100 people affected and over 20 confirmed dead.

The vice president said his visit was to sympathise with the injured and families impacted by the attacks, while reaffirming the government’s determination to defeat terrorist groups operating in the region.

He stressed that beyond recent directives issued to security chiefs, the Federal Government has increased investment in military equipment and logistics to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Shettima condemned the attacks, describing the perpetrators as barbaric and insisting that no cause can justify the killing of innocent civilians.

He also assured victims of continued government support through agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency and the North East Development Commission, in collaboration with the Borno State Government.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the vice president was accompanied by Borno State Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, alongside the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, and the Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital, Ahmed Ahijo, among other senior officials.

The visit comes amid heightened security concerns in Maiduguri, as authorities continue efforts to prevent further attacks and stabilise the region.
