Vice-President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after representing President Bola Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York and concluding high-level engagements in Germany.
A statement released on Thursday confirmed his arrival, marking the end of a week-long international mission where he delivered President Tinubu’s national statement to world leaders. Shettima used the platform to push for sweeping UN reforms, insisting that Africa must retain sovereignty over its $700 billion mineral resources.
The Vice-President also deepened Nigeria’s global partnerships, holding key discussions with the United Kingdom, the Gates Foundation, and other influential international stakeholders.
In another highlight of the trip, Shettima met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who commended Nigeria’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. He further showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to potential investors, describing it as a game-changer for the country’s economy.

While addressing the Nigerian diaspora community, Shettima reassured them of stronger participation in the Tinubu administration’s programmes and policies. He later proceeded to Germany where he continued strategic discussions aimed at driving foreign investment and economic growth for Nigeria.
The Vice-President’s return signals the conclusion of a diplomatic tour that placed Nigeria’s voice firmly on the global stage, reinforcing its demand for equity, reform, and opportunity in international affairs.
