President Bola Tinubu has instructed Vice President Kashim Shettima to head a high-level federal government delegation to Kano State in response to the severe fire that occurred at Singer Market.
The delegation is set to depart from Abuja on Monday to express condolences to the affected traders and evaluate the extent of the damage caused by the fire over the weekend.
Reports indicate that the fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Gidan Gilas area of Singer Market and rapidly spread through shops and warehouses.
Goods valued at millions of naira were lost before firefighters were able to control the blaze.
This marks the second major fire at the market in just two weeks.
Earlier in February, another fire destroyed numerous shops, with traders estimating losses in the billions of naira. The recurrence of such incidents has raised serious concerns regarding safety protocols at the market.
Tinubu, in a conversation with Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, expressed his condolences to the victims and described the destruction as alarming.
He voiced his deep concern over the occurrence of another fire so soon after the last incident.
The president has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the repeated fires at the market to identify the underlying causes and prevent future occurrences.

Additionally, the team features the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard M. Doro, and the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who will oversee relief efforts for the affected traders.
Kano State authorities are currently collaborating with emergency agencies to restore normal trading operations and enhance safety measures to prevent future disasters.
