Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea’s President, Mamadi Doumbouya, and later at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
Shettima is scheduled to attend the inauguration ceremony on Saturday, January 18, at the GLC Stadium in Conakry, Guinea. The trip was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications.
According to the statement, the visit is aimed at strengthening regional leadership, deepening economic cooperation, and reinforcing Nigeria’s strategic role in West Africa in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. It also underscores Nigeria’s commitment to the Economic Community of West African States, particularly its support for Guinea’s return to democratic governance after four years of military rule.
The statement further noted the growing trade relationship between Nigeria and Guinea, revealing that Nigerian exports to the country, including agricultural produce and manufactured goods, have risen to about 3.29 million dollars.

President Doumbouya came to power following a military coup in September 2021 that removed former President Alpha Condé. Guinea was subsequently suspended from ECOWAS and the African Union pending the conduct of elections. Doumbouya’s inauguration marks the country’s formal return to constitutional rule following his election victory.
After the Guinea engagement, Vice President Shettima will proceed to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the 56th Annual World Economic Forum scheduled for January 19 to 23, 2026. The forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” will bring together global leaders to discuss pressing global issues, including technology, energy, employment, and sustainable development.
While in Davos, Shettima is expected to engage world leaders and investors on Nigeria’s economic reforms, investment opportunities, and Africa’s place in the global economy. He is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the meetings in Switzerland.
