Vice President Kashim Shettima has sparked discussions by boasting that his home in Maiduguri is superior to President Bola Tinubu’s residence in Bourdillon, Lagos. During a book launch in Abuja on Thursday, Shettima shared his thoughts, remarking that there is nothing extraordinary about Tinubu’s famous Bourdillon home.

Speaking at the launch of “Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria” by Prof. Modupe Adelabu, Shettima emphasized the need for Nigerians to support President Tinubu as he tackles the nation’s economic and security challenges. He reassured the public that the benefits of the administration’s tough policies will soon be evident, urging everyone to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on past difficulties.

Shettima praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a man with a good heart and a genuine desire to leave a lasting impact on Nigeria. He downplayed the luxury associated with the President’s lifestyle, noting that Tinubu’s Bourdillon home did not live up to the grand expectations.

“In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have a leader that we can trust. I’m not playing politics; I’ve seen the soul of Bola Tinubu, and he has a good soul,” Shettima said. “My house in Maiduguri is better than his house in Bourdillon. He doesn’t care about material wealth; he’s focused on making a difference.”

Shettima also highlighted the challenges the administration inherited, emphasizing that the focus should be on addressing these issues rather than blaming previous governments. He criticized opposition parties, stating that they had also planned to remove fuel subsidies.

He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic future, citing recent progress such as increased oil exports and a stabilizing Naira. Shettima called on Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu, comparing the current economic challenges to the pain of childbirth, which eventually leads to joy.

The Vice President also addressed the state of education in northern Nigeria, expressing concern over the involvement of underage children in recent protests. He attributed this to a breakdown in family values and a dysfunctional family system.

Shettima’s remarks have drawn attention to the President’s efforts to steer the country through difficult times, calling for unity and support as Nigeria embarks on a path to sustained growth and stability.
