A tragic accident occurred on the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge in Kano, when a trailer lost control and overturned, killing several people and leaving many others injured.

The incident, which took place at the Hotoro NNPC underpass, involved a trailer reportedly traveling from the north to the south.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was carrying both passengers and goods when it slipped, while navigating the underpass tunnel that connects the ring road to the Zaria highway.

An eyewitness, Shu’aibu Hamisu, described the horrifying scene, stating that “the trailer slipped inside the underpass, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Others have been rescued, while many lost their lives on the spot,” he added.

A social media user, Yahya Abubakar Sadiq, who was at the scene, reported that at least 20 people were involved in the accident, with some confirmed dead and others in critical condition.

This accident is not the first of its kind at this location. Residents and business operators in the area revealed that similar crashes involving trailers have occurred multiple times in the past year. The vehicles involved are often transporting livestock, food items, and passengers from the north to the south.

Local sources disclosed that many of the accidents happened, when drivers miscalculate the risk of speeding under the bridge.

Spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed that rescue operations were ongoing and that efforts were being made to gather full details of the incident.
