Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a nail-biting 3-2 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, thanks to a last-minute strike by Serge Gnabry. The win also marked a successful debut for Bayern’s new coach, Vincent Kompany, who celebrated his first league game in charge with a dramatic three points.
Wolfsburg started strong, putting Bayern’s defense under intense pressure. However, it was Bayern who drew first blood in the opening half. French sensation Sacha Boey dazzled down the right flank, setting up Jamal Musiala for an easy tap-in to give the visitors an early lead.
The second half saw a shaky Bayern side, as they conceded a penalty when Tiago Tomas was brought down by Boey. Wolfsburg’s Lovro Majer confidently converted from the spot, leveling the scoreline and putting the Bavarians on the back foot.

Wolfsburg continued to wreak havoc on Bayern’s defense, and it wasn’t long before Majer struck again, this time from a perfectly timed pass by Patrick Wimmer, putting Wolfsburg ahead.
But the game was far from over. Bayern’s fortune changed when a deflected shot led to an own goal by Wolfsburg’s Jakub Kaminski, leveling the score at 2-2. With the clock ticking down, Harry Kane delivered a crucial assist to Gnabry, who fired a low shot into the corner in the 82nd minute, sealing a hard-fought victory for Bayern.
“We are very happy and are happy to take it. It’s good for morale and self-confidence,” Gnabry said after the match, reflecting on the dramatic finish that ensured Kompany’s reign began with a win.
