Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West in the 10th Senate, has confirmed his defection from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
Speaking to State House correspondents shortly after the meeting, Wadada revealed that although he has not made a formal announcement on the Senate floor, he now considers himself a full member of the APC. He explained that his decision was not borne out of any grievance with the SDP but rather a reflection of the “dynamism of life” and the current political climate.
“I am still proud of the SDP, the party has not offended me in any way. But the happenings now may not warrant my continued stay. I am already APC, even though I have not officially moved,” Wadada stated, recalling how he had previously moved from APC to SDP under different circumstances.
The senator expressed absolute confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and declared that no opposition party would have the political space or momentum to challenge him in the 2027 presidential election.

“Look at those forming coalitions to challenge APC in 2027, many of them are respected Nigerians, but tell me who among them can do better than what President Tinubu is doing now? I haven’t seen any,” he said. “Between now and 2031, anybody can say what they wish, but the space is already taken, occupied by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Wadada also questioned whether any potential opponent would have the courage to reverse the removal of fuel subsidy, a reform he believes underscores Tinubu’s political will.
The defection marks a significant political shift in Nasarawa State’s representation and further strengthens the APC’s presence in the Senate as President Tinubu’s allies continue to consolidate power ahead of 2027.
