The senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has sponsored the Federal Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (SB 540). The bill, which seeks to establish the Federal Polytechnic, Bomadi, successfully passed its first reading in the Senate on November 21, 2024.
The proposed Federal Polytechnic is envisioned as a transformative institution aimed at equipping the youth with technical and vocational skills essential for driving economic development in Delta State and across Nigeria.
The institution will specialize in technical and vocational disciplines, addressing industry skill gaps and preparing graduates who are not only job-ready but also capable of innovation.
It is expected to drive economic growth by creating a skilled workforce aimed at attracting investments, spur industrial growth, and generate sustainable employment opportunities for the region.
It will provide quality education to underserved communities, particularly in rural areas, fostering social equity and reducing disparities in educational access.
The establishment of the polytechnic will lead to direct and indirect job creation, significantly boosting the economy of Bomadi and its environs.
