Former Adamawa North lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, has been detained by the Nigeria Police Force following shocking allegations that he raped a 13-year-old secondary school student at his Katampe residence in Abuja.
The victim’s parents reported that the alleged assault took place on June 29, 2025. They further claimed that Abbo tried to suppress the case by sending money to the girl’s father.
In a dramatic twist, the family also alleged that Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani and a former governorship candidate in Adamawa, visited them in a bid to dissuade them from taking the matter public.
Police sources confirmed that Abbo is currently being held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) headquarters in Abuja. A senior officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said investigators are pursuing the matter with full seriousness and pledged that “no stone will be left unturned.”

This latest scandal adds to a long history of controversy surrounding the embattled senator. In 2019, he sparked nationwide outrage after a viral video showed him physically assaulting a woman inside a sex toy shop in Abuja. He was later accused of attempting to blackmail a married woman with a sex tape, further denting his public image.
Child rights advocates and civil society groups have condemned the latest allegations, describing the case as a critical test of Nigeria’s justice system. The Executive Director of the Child Protection Network (Lagos Chapter) called on authorities to resist political interference and ensure accountability, insisting that “justice for the survivor must not be compromised.”
Since losing his Senate seat in 2023, Abbo has remained in the spotlight more for scandal than for statesmanship. His detention has ignited a storm of reactions on social media, with Nigerians demanding swift prosecution and warning against any attempt to sweep the case under the carpet.
As at press time, neither Abbo nor his legal team has issued an official response to the allegations.
