Former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has dismissed reports linking him to the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl, insisting that the claims are fabricated to tarnish his image.
Reports surfaced online on Thursday, alleging that the embattled lawmaker was arrested and detained at the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja over an incident said to have occurred at his Katampe residence on June 29, 2025. The reports also claimed that the victim’s family accused Abbo of offering money to silence them and that Senator Aishatu Binani, the 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, visited the family in a bid to discourage them from pursuing the case.
Reacting swiftly to the allegations, Senator Abbo described the reports as false, malicious, and politically motivated. He told journalists in Abuja on Friday that he had been at home all day on Thursday and was never in police custody.
“This report is the work of my political adversaries. It is a coordinated smear campaign aimed at disrupting my peace by my political foes,” Abbo declared.

The former senator further clarified that while he had indeed been to the FCID recently, it was not in connection with the rape allegation. According to him, he had reported a woman to the police for allegedly attempting to extort money from him, after which both parties were invited for questioning.
“I personally reported this desperate money-seeker to the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department, where we were both invited for questioning. It is shocking to now read or hear an entirely different narrative weeks later,” Abbo explained.
The embattled politician maintained his innocence and insisted the allegations were part of a broader attempt by rivals to smear his reputation and destabilize him politically.
