Senator Bala Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, has issued a strong rebuttal to recent comments by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Describing Wike’s media chat as a “bombastic and disjointed tirade,” Senator Mohammed accused the former Rivers State governor of undermining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and exhibiting a divisive style of politics.

It would be recalled that a few days ago, Wike had criticised Mohammed’s opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, calling it a blind opposition.

According to the Bauchi State Governor, Wike’s rise in Nigerian politics is owed to the PDP, a platform he claims Wike is now intent on disparaging for personal gain. Mohammed highlighted Wike’s “transactional approach” to politics, labeling him as a politician who “bites the hand that feeds him.” He expressed disappointment over Wike’s behavior, which he described as an affront to the party that nurtured his political career.

“Chief Wike’s ascendancy is a testament to the opportunities provided by the PDP. Yet, his actions today gleefully undermine the very foundation that stood by him,” Senator Mohammed remarked. He further criticized Wike’s political style, calling it dramatic and divisive, while accusing him of alienating even his closest allies with opportunistic behavior.

The exchange also touched on Wike’s claim that he and Mohammed are not friends. The Bauchi Governor dismissed this as irrelevant, stating that governance is not built on personal friendships but on competence and a commitment to delivering results. “Governance is not a game of theatrics or personal relationships. It is about vision, principles, and the public good,” he said.

Senator Mohammed took the opportunity to contrast his leadership approach with Wike’s, emphasizing his focus on unity, progress, and service to the people. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, a party he described as the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic progress, and expressed confidence in the party’s resilience despite challenges from individuals like Wike.

As tensions between the two politicians continue to simmer, the exchange is a clear indication of the deeper divisions within the PDP and raises questions about the survival of the party.
