The Senate has confirmed Dr. Bala Bello as the part-time chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), representing the North-East on Wednesday.
In addition to Dr. Bello’s appointment, the Senate approved five nominees to serve as non-executive directors on the AMCON board.
The board members are Yusuf Sule from the North-Central; Mr. Adeyemo Stephen from the South-West; Mr. Yahaya Ibrahim from the North-West; Mr. Odion Iyare from the South-South; and Mrs. Emily Osuji from the South-East.
The confirmations followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions.
This report highlighted the nominees’ qualifications and relevant experience, demonstrating that they had undergone a meticulous evaluation process.

Sen. Osita Izunaso, who spoke on behalf of the committee chairman, affirmed that all the nominees were unanimously deemed qualified for their respective roles.
He also noted that no petition or objection was raised against any of the candidates after they successfully cleared thorough background checks conducted by security agencies.
Following the successful confirmations, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the committee’s diligent effort in scrutinizing the nominees.
He conveyed an optimistic view that the new leadership at AMCON would infuse the organization with renewed vigour and strategic direction, ultimately aiming to enhance its role in stabilizing the nation’s financial landscape and effectively managing public assets.
