Former senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has called on political leaders and public office holders to deliberately mentor and empower young people, emphasizing that leadership is a continuous cycle that will inevitably involve the next generation.
In a statement shared over the weekend, Abbo noted that the aides, boys and girls currently working closely with political figures will one day rise to occupy key positions of authority.
He cautioned that today’s political elites must intentionally create pathways for youth development, as their own children may someday depend on those same individuals.
“These small boys and girls following us today will be followed by our children tomorrow. Connect them to the top. Their quality is the same quality they will put into your children tomorrow,” Abbo said.

He explained that leadership operates in a cyclical pattern, where those who serve current leaders will become leaders themselves, shaping the future for the next generation, including the children of today’s political class.
According to him, neglecting the youth equates to undermining one’s own legacy and political dynasty.
“They carry your files, your children carry their files, and their children carry your children’s files. Endless cycle. Build the youth, build your dynasty,” he added.
Abbo’s remarks are coming amid growing national conversations on youth inclusion in governance, political succession, and long-term leadership grooming strategies in Nigeria.
