The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Saturday successfully conducted its local government congress across the 25 council areas of the state, with party executives emerging through consensus in a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.
The congress, which recorded impressive turnout, was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, party officials and members of the media.
Members of the APC national committee assigned to Delta State were earlier received at the party’s secretariat in Asaba by the state Chairman, Omeni Sobotie.
He commended the committee for the successful conduct of the ward congress and urged them to adhere strictly to party guidelines in overseeing the local government congress.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, its Secretary, Simon Atigwe assured members that their mission was to ensure a transparent and inclusive process that would strengthen unity and internal harmony within the party.
Atigwe, who spoke to newsmen at the congress venue in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area, after monitoring the exercise across the three senatorial districts, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation and the orderly conduct of members in all the local government areas the committee visited.
He described Delta as a special state for the APC, noting the peaceful atmosphere and adequate security arrangements.
Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Kelvin Ezenyili, described the exercise as rancour-free, stressing that the executives emerged through sincere consensus and affirmation.
In Oshimili North at Akwukwu-Igbo, party leaders lauded the peaceful conduct of the congress, describing the high turnout as a reflection of stakeholders’ endorsement of the consensus arrangement.
In Uvwie Local Government Area, Sylvester Oghenewede emerged as chairman of the APC.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, commended members for the successful congress and urged them to work towards the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027.
In Isoko North, Mr. Sunday Omonakome was elected chairman alongside other executive members at the congress held at the council secretariat in Ozoro.
Similarly, in Isoko South, Mr. Victor Ekelega emerged as chairman at the affirmative congress held at Oleh Township Stadium.
In Ughelli North, Mr. Lucky Ofomukoro emerged as chairman at the congress held at the Oharisi Primary School.
In Ughelli South, a new executive led by Mr. Ojay Ojigho was elected through consensus during the congress held at Otu-Jeremi.
In Ika North-East, Mr. Emeka Asiwe was elected the chairman following a consensus process in line with party guidelines.
In Ethiope West, Mr. Clement Okorodide emerged as chairman at the congress held at the Onogborhe Primary School, Ovade-Oghara.
In Ethiope East, Mr. Midwest Iboyitete was elected as chairman at the Government Pavilion in Isiokolo.
With the emergence of new executives across the state, party stakeholders expressed optimism that the APC in Delta State remains united, cohesive and better positioned for future electoral contests.
