A security expert, Mubarak Umar, has warned that if the federal government intends to win the war against banditry in the North West by 2025, then there must be no sacred cows.
Umar pointed out that evidence has shown that numerous powerful figures have ties to banditry.
During a conversation with reporters in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, the security expert mentioned that three emirs and various district heads have lost their positions because of their connections to banditry.
“The previous Governor of the state, who is now the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle, established a high-level committee to address banditry, led by former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
“The committee put forth the suggestion that five emirs and 35 district heads should be removed from office due to their participation in banditry, yet the state government chose not to implement these recommendations,” he remarked.

Umar further explained that a deceased lawmaker from the state House of Assembly faced accusations and was held for several days because of his alleged involvement in banditry, only to be released without conditions before his demise.
Additionally, Umar highlighted that in Zamfara State, farmers are unable to access their farmlands because of the activities of bandits.
He emphasised that countless women have become widows, while thousands of children orphaned by the activities of bandits now roam the streets in search of handouts to survive.
