The Isoko North Local Government Council has announced a temporary ban on the movement of motorcycles between 10.00pm and 6.00am, a move aimed at tightening security and curbing criminal activities during the Christmas and New Year period.

The restriction takes effect from December 22, 2025 and will run until January 2, 2026, following approval at the final Executive Council meeting of the year. The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government, Hon. Elder Prince Godwin Ogorugba, at the council’s Executive Chambers.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Supervisor for Community Development and Agriculture, Engr. Thomas Akpoedafe, said the decision was part of broader measures to safeguard lives and property across the local government area during the festive season. He spoke alongside the Supervisor for Works and Environment, Amb. Egwu Oghenero Alakpodia, and the Supervisor for Youths and Sports, Comrade Alebe Joshua Onos.

In addition to the motorcycle restriction, the Executive Council approved the disengagement of all revenue agents and consultants operating within the local government, with effect from December 31, 2025. Akpoedafe clarified that no individual or group would be allowed to continue revenue collection beyond that date, as existing engagements would have expired. He, however, noted that interested parties could apply afresh if they wished to partner with the council in future.

The council also extended the tenure of the Local Government Revenue Committee, currently headed by the Supervisor for Community Development and Agriculture, by an additional six months to ensure continuity and improved oversight.

Reinforcing its security stance, the Executive Council restated its directive to landlords in Isoko North to properly profile their tenants by obtaining valid means of identification, including National Identification Numbers and passport photographs. It warned that owners of uncompleted buildings must immediately evict squatters occupying such structures, stressing that property owners would be held liable for harbouring criminal elements if they fail to comply.

At the meeting, the Executive Council passed a vote of confidence on Chairman Godwin Ogorugba, commending his leadership and developmental achievements across Isoko North in 2025. Members also congratulated residents for what they described as a productive and eventful year, expressing optimism for improved governance and security in the coming year.
