An online journalist, Mr. Efecha Collins Gold was given the beating of his life by security aides attached the wife of the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
His phone was also confiscated by the security aides.
The unfortunate incident happened at the Dome Event Centre, Asaba .
It was an event of Nigeria First Lady Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme in collaboration with You Matter Charity Foundation of Mrs. Tobore Óborevwori.
In a post, Efecha detailed the brutal and inhumane treatment meted to him by the aides of the governor’s wife.
Efecha lamented: “I was just doing my job. But I was treated like a criminal, beaten in public, and my phone taken away. I couldn’t even call anyone for help for more than 4 hours.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ Delta State, is demanding justice and calling on the state government to issue a formal apology and discipline the security operatives who assaulted Mr. Gold.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) said it takes a strong stand in defense of its members and the integrity of the media.
It called on civil society groups and human rights organizations to condemn this attack and help protect the freedom of the press.
“Freedom of the press is the heartbeat of democracy. Intimidating journalists only weakens Nigeria’s democratic future. The government must do better,” the NUJ said.
