The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has issued a clarification regarding the recent circulation of old images depicting visits to its secretariat, stating that these pictures are being misinterpreted to spread misinformation.
In a statement released by the party, the SDP National Chairman emphasized that the images in question were taken during visits by key figures of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Barau Jibrin, and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, ahead of their emergence as Senate President, Deputy Senate President, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively. These visits, the statement clarified, were part of the normal political process in which various political stakeholders seek support and build alliances.
The SDP stressed the need for proper context when assessing such images to prevent misinterpretation or deliberate manipulation for propaganda purposes. The party reaffirmed its commitment to its core values and principles, stating that it remains focused on the welfare and development of Nigerians.
Tracing its history back to 1989, the SDP has continued to evolve, positioning itself as a viable alternative to both the ruling APC and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party remains steadfast in its advocacy for social democracy, prioritizing security, economic growth, education, and healthcare for Nigerians.
The statement further condemned attempts to distort the SDP’s image, insisting that the party will not be distracted by propaganda. Instead, it remains dedicated to providing a credible political platform that prioritizes the interests of all Nigerians.
“In an era of increasing misinformation, it is essential to verify facts and provide accurate context to ensure an informed public discourse,” the statement read.
The SDP also called on the ruling APC to focus on delivering on its promises to Nigerians rather than engaging in distractions. The party urged all political actors to prioritize the nation’s pressing concerns, such as economic stability, security, and the welfare of citizens, the statement concluded.
