Nollywood actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed that her lead role in the hit TV series Wura took a significant toll on her mental health, prompting her to seek therapy after filming.

Speaking in a recent episode of Paul and Baaj, hosted by Paul Utomi and Baaj Adebule, the actress disclosed that portraying Wura Adeleke, a complex and ruthless businesswoman, began to affect her psychologically as she struggled to detach from the character off-screen.

According to Gomez, the intensity of the role made it difficult for her to “switch off” after leaving the set, as elements of the character began to seep into her real-life behavior and thought patterns.

“I had to go for therapy after Wura because it was bad. My mind wasn’t in the right place, and I knew I needed help,” she said.

The actress explained that transitioning into other roles became increasingly challenging, especially when she was required to play softer or emotionally lighter characters, due to the lingering impact of the role.

Gomez, however, credited therapy and the support of her close circle for helping her regain stability and separate her personal identity from the character.

Her revelation sheds light on the often-overlooked psychological demands of acting, particularly for performers who take on intense, long-running roles.

Industry observers say her experience underscores the importance of mental health awareness and support systems within the entertainment sector.
