The “Sleeping Prince” of Saudi Arabia, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, has died at the age of 36, more than 20 years after a serious car accident in London left him in a coma.

At just 15 years old during the 2005 incident, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and internal bleeding, and he never regained full consciousness, remaining on a ventilator since then.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, shared the tragic news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

He expressed his sorrow by quoting a verse from the Quran: “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Before the accident, Prince Al-Waleed was studying at a military college in London.

After the crash, he was taken to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained under continuous medical care in a coma.

Despite his son’s prolonged condition, Prince Khaled held onto hope for recovery and resisted calls to end life support.

Over the years, photos showed Prince Al-Waleed in a hospital bed, often surrounded by family who continued to care for him.

His situation garnered significant attention throughout the Arab world, where he became a symbol of hope and faith.

The news of his death has led to a wave of emotional responses online, with the hashtag #SleepingPrince trending across social media.
