Senator Shehu Sani has praised the Federal Government’s decision to revoke the N740 billion Kaduna-Abuja road construction contract from Julius Berger due to alleged “non-performance.” The senator hailed the decision as “long overdue,” emphasizing that it’s unprecedented for a Minister of Works to challenge a major, influential construction firm like Julius Berger.
“This is the first time in history that a minister has confronted a giant company like Julius Berger and sent them packing,” Sani stated.

While Sani commended the government’s action, some stakeholders have voiced concerns, pointing out that Julius Berger is widely regarded for its commitment to project completion. Critics cautioned Sani against drawing conclusions, suggesting that the termination may have more complex factors than just “non-performance.”
The contract, following its revocation from Julius Berger, is rumoured to reportedly been re-awarded to HighTech, a company widely believed to have the interest of President Bola Tinubu, thereby adding another layer of intrigue to this high-stakes project.
