The Rivers State Police Command has assured residents, particularly Muslim faithful, of adequate security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police said personnel and operational assets have been strategically deployed to key locations across the state. These include Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public places.

The statement added that security has also been strengthened around critical infrastructure and other vulnerable points to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the festive period.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies.

He advised the public to avoid reckless driving, unlawful gatherings, and any behaviour capable of disrupting public peace, while also calling on parents and guardians to properly monitor their children and wards.

Adepoju warned that individuals involved in criminal acts such as thuggery, cultism, armed robbery, or violence would be swiftly arrested and prosecuted.

Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Rivers State has deployed 1,230 personnel across the state to further enhance security before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations.

The State Commandant, Joachin Okafor, gave the directive following a strategic security meeting involving heads of departments, units, and area commanders at the command headquarters.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ihemnacho Umeadi, personnel have been deployed to Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, major road junctions, recreational centres, and identified flashpoints across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The commandant charged officers to maintain a high level of professionalism and vigilance in their interactions with the public, stressing the need to uphold the core values and mandate of the corps.

He also emphasised the importance of continued collaboration among security agencies in the state to ensure effective service delivery.

Okafor reassured residents of the corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical national assets throughout the festive period.

He warned that any attempt by criminal elements, vandals, or miscreants to disrupt peace would be met with decisive action.

The commandant further extended his goodwill to Muslim faithful, wishing them a peaceful and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration, and urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
