Hajiya Umma, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has passed away.
The news of her death was announced on Friday by her grandson in a Facebook post, revealing that she died just hours earlier.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah we came and to Him we shall return. I wish to inform the public of the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai,” he wrote.
He described the deceased as the biological mother of El-Rufai and offered prayers for the repose of her soul, while also urging members of the public to remember her in their prayers.

“We are grateful for the life she lived. May Allah bless her gentle soul and grant her eternal rest,” the statement added.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of her death had not been disclosed.
Her passing comes amid ongoing legal challenges involving her son, who is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), following his re-arrest linked to an earlier detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
