Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future as Manchester United’s interim manager remains in question as reports swirl about the imminent arrival of Ruben Amorim. However, United’s players, led by goalkeeper Andre Onana, have made it clear they want the Dutch legend to stay.
Van Nistelrooy, who took charge after Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, has been a steadying force for United, remaining unbeaten in his three games. On Thursday, he guided the team to a crucial 2-0 Europa League victory over PAOK – United’s first European win in over a year.
The former United striker has expressed his desire to stay on as part of the club’s restructured management team, with his interim stint set to conclude after Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Onana voiced strong support for Van Nistelrooy. “100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach,” Onana said. “He has so much experience and advises us a lot. It’s fantastic what he’s doing, and the players are happy. But ultimately, it’s the club’s decision.”
Despite the uncertainty, Van Nistelrooy is laser-focused on preparing for his last scheduled match as interim manager. “I’m only busy with one thing in my mind,” he stated. “I want to prepare for my last game as well as I can and give the players everything they need for the best performance… Beyond that, I don’t look too far ahead, to be honest.”
As speculation mounts, fans and players alike will be watching to see if United’s management heeds the team’s wishes to keep Van Nistelrooy on board.
