Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim has responded to swirling rumors about his potential move to Manchester United, denying that a deal is finalized despite United’s willingness to pay his €10 million release clause. The Portuguese club confirmed on Tuesday that the Premier League giants expressed interest, sparking speculation about Amorim’s future.
This development comes on the heels of Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday, with Manchester United languishing in 14th place in the league. Fans are eager for a swift appointment as United aims to have a new manager in place by Sunday’s crucial clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford. However, Amorim remains cautious, focusing on Sporting’s upcoming fixtures.
Speaking after Sporting’s 3-1 Portuguese League Cup quarter-final victory over Nacional, Amorim avoided committing to any decision regarding Manchester United. “I have nothing to say now, we’re analyzing here. Anything I say will only create more noise,” he told reporters, emphasizing that talks are ongoing but inconclusive.

While Sporting’s official statement confirmed United’s interest, Amorim underscored that the ultimate decision lies with him. “There’s the club statement; everyone knows about it… I can’t promise anything. I’ll be at training tomorrow, preparing for our league game with Estrela da Amadora on Friday,” he added.
Earlier, Sporting notified the Portuguese Securities Market Commission about United’s pursuit of Amorim, outlining the specifics of his release clause. “Manchester United FC expressed interest in hiring coach Ruben Amorim… specifically the respective termination clause for €10 million,” the Lisbon-based club’s statement read.
At 39, Amorim has rapidly risen as one of Europe’s most promising managers. He led Sporting to their first Primeira Liga title in nearly two decades in 2021 and secured another last season. His tactical acumen and leadership have made him an ideal candidate for a club in need of transformation, like Manchester United.
As Manchester United remains tight-lipped, fans are left to speculate whether Amorim will be their next managerial choice. The appointment could mark a new chapter for United, as they look to reclaim their Premier League glory and stabilize the team.
