Portugal’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, announced that he will not participate in this month’s Club World Cup after declining offers from teams involved.

The 40-year-old player is set to finish his contract with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr at the end of June.

In May, FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested that Ronaldo might join a team in the Club World Cup since Al-Nassr did not qualify.

“I will not be at the Club World Cup,” Ronaldo stated.

“Some teams reached out to me. Some offers made sense while others did not, but you can’t do everything. You can’t catch every ball.”

After Al-Nassr’s last league game of the season in May, Ronaldo shared on social media that “the chapter is over,” which led many to believe he might be moving to a new team.

However, sources say that Al-Nassr feels confident about renewing Ronaldo’s contract.

Before Portugal’s Nations League final against Spain on Sunday, Ronaldo mentioned that a decision about his future was “almost final.”

He joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after ending his contract with Manchester United.

Ronaldo has scored 99 goals in 111 games for the club, including 35 goals in 41 matches last season.

He also scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Germany on Wednesday, securing Portugal’s place in the Nations League final.
