The Rivers State Police Command has disbursed a total of N21.68 million to families of officers who lost their lives in active service, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, presented cheques to the beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the command headquarters on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.

Adepoju said the gesture reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of families of fallen officers, acknowledging the sacrifices made by personnel in the line of duty.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the Force remains dedicated to supporting them, adding that the contributions of the deceased officers would not be forgotten.

The police chief also stressed the importance of such welfare initiatives in boosting the morale of serving officers and reinforcing confidence within the Force.

Beneficiaries of the compensation commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of officers and their families.

They highlighted his efforts in implementing reforms aimed at building a more responsive and people-focused police institution, noting that such initiatives have helped strengthen trust and morale within the Force.

The cheque presentation, according to the command, underscores its ongoing commitment to honouring fallen officers and supporting their families, while reaffirming its mandate to protect lives and maintain public safety.
