A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, on Thursday, took a swipe at members of the Rivers State National Assembly Caucus, accusing them of being unfocused.
Eze said the lawmakers have lost their sense of decency, focus and are bereft of moral rectitude, following their quest to perpetuate crisis and slow down the socio-political, and economic advancement of Rivers State.
His reprimand was contained in a statement he issued Thursday evening in Port Harcourt, while reacting to the recent visit of the caucus to Martins Amaewhule, where they pledged solidarity with the ousted former Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly.
It would be recalled that the caucus had accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of procuring the services of certain individuals, to misinterpret court judgments, and to skew public opinion in his favour.
The APC chieftain described the attitude of the Rivers State National Assembly members as “parochial, incongruous and wicked,” insisting that they have lost the essence of being called lawmakers.
Eze said the stance of the lawmakers would have been ignored, but for purposes of setting the records straight.
He argued that, from their stance, the aforementioned group of Rivers State lawmakers, have become a tool in the hands of detractors that are hell-bent on destroying the state for their selfish interests.
Eze reminded the Rivers State National Assembly Caucus that the core function of a legislator is to make laws, or legislation, adding that legislators also represent their constituents, and oversee the executive and judicial branches of government.
“Rather than concentrate on how to provide purposeful representation to their respective constituents, those busy-bodies and middle of the road lawmakers are busy playing politics with the progress and development of Rivers State.
“It beats one’s imagination that the Rivers State House of Assembly members under Martin Amaewhule, upon defection to the APC, are still laying claim to their vacant seats,” he wondered

Eze said for the lawmakers “to eat their vomits, swallow their pride and lie from the pit of hell that defection never took place in Rivers State is highly unfortunate and morally debasing.”
He called on President Tinubu not to allow Gov. Fubara to be disgraced for obeying the presidential directive that all processes in court should be withdrawn to pave way for peace in the state, while the pro -Wike side remains adamant.
“We want Nigerians and the world to know that the withdrawal of the counter -affidavit by the Rivers State governor in a suit by Amaewhule was based on the truce by President Bola Tinubu. The question is, when has it become a sin for a governor to obey a president?”
Eze further blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for contributing to the tension in Rivers State, by not conducting bye-election to fill the vacant seats left by the defected 27 lawmakers
He said Rivers people will stand strong and resist the plot by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to hand over Rivers State to the APC in 2027.
