The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) says it would enroll pupils in all public primary schools across the 23 local government areas of the state into its health insurance scheme.
Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala, disclosed this when she led a team on an advocacy visit to the Chairman and management of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Agala stated that the state recently recorded a high level of chronically malnourished children, emphasizing that her agency is willing and ready to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure children in the state remain healthy.
The executive secretary, who also used the medium to solicit the support of SUBEB to see that all staff and teachers under the board are enrolled in the RIVCHPP’s health insurance plans, enumerated the benefits that will accrue to the enrollees.
Dr. Agala assured the board that with the investment and interest of the state government in the health sector, all RIVCHPP’s enrollees would get the best medical services at the various health facilities across the state.

Chairman of Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Sam Ogeh, who commended the strides being made by RIVCHPP, affirmed that health insurance is the right way to go.
Ogeh, however, enjoined the management of RIVCHPP to be more aggressive with their advocacy campaigns to create more awareness among residents of the state who truly need to benefit from the laudable programmes of the government.
The SUBEB chairman pledged the willingness of the board to collaborate with RIVCHPP, considering the benefits of the scheme to the people of the state, adding that the board would do everything to make the programme succeed.
