Rivers State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in her ward in Ogba, Egbema and Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, marking a significant political shift in the state’s evolving power landscape.

Odu completed her electronic registration on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, before embarking on a tour of the six zones of ONELGA to sensitise residents on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise. The tour was aimed at boosting grassroots participation and consolidating support for the ruling party across the local government area.

Addressing residents during the exercise, the Deputy Governor urged the people to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, by registering en masse with the APC. She said the registration drive followed Governor Fubara’s recent declaration for the party and was designed to strengthen political alignment at the community level.

Odu explained that six zonal meetings had already been conducted to ensure effective mobilisation and a smooth registration process across ONELGA. She described the response from residents as overwhelming, noting that large crowds turned out across the communities visited.

According to her, the tour covered Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni zones, with the level of enthusiasm reflecting what she described as growing acceptance of the APC within the area. She quoted residents as pledging to follow her political direction and to stand with both Governor Fubara and President Tinubu.

In a related development, hundreds of members of the Labour Party in Ndoni defected to the APC during the tour, publicly declaring their support for the ruling party. The defectors expressed excitement over their decision, describing it as a move toward stronger political relevance and inclusion.

Reacting to the defections, Odu said the development had further strengthened the APC in ONELGA and demonstrated increasing grassroots alignment with the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The resignation was contained in a formal letter dated January 5, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ward 1, PDP, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

In the letter, which was submitted through the party’s ward office at Bob-Manuel’s Compound in Abonnema, Anabraba stated that his decision to leave the PDP was personal and followed careful consideration. He expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities and political exposure he enjoyed during his time as a member.

The twin developments signal continued realignments within Rivers State politics as major political figures and party structures adjust ahead of future electoral contests.
