The unending twist and turns in the Rivers State political space has continued as some of the 27 pro-Wike House of Assembly members are said to have abandoned the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister.
The Trumpet gathered that about five members of the group have joined those loyal to Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara.
It was learnt that the five members are from the Ijaw stock in the state who have been threatening fire, and brimstone over the alleged plot to impeach Gov. Fubara by the Amaewhule led state House of Assembly.
Our correspondent further learnt that the remaining five members of the assembly from the Ijaw speaking part of the state, will also defect any moment soon, as the governor’s think thank intensity plans to weaken the FCT minister’s force in the state.
As the identities of the lawmakers who have reportedly abandoned the Wike camp remain unconfirmed, sources informed The Trumpet that the bigger implications of impeaching Gov. Fubara are being canvassed among the riverine axis of the state, to the effect that power would ultimately go back to the Ikwerre people as the speaker who is Ikwerre would likely emerge as governor.
The last time Ijaws in the state tasted power was more than 40 years ago, during the time of the late Melford Okilo.
There were reports last week, of a purported resignation of the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu as heavy pressure was said to have been mounted on her by the hawks in Wike’s camp to resign to pave the way for a smooth ascension of Amaewhule to power if Gov. Fubara is finally impeached.
