The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in defiance of an existing court order, held its state congress in Port Harcourt.
At the congress, the delegates ratified the position of the factional acting state.Chairman, Tony Okocha through voice vote.
However, the party may be heading into a similar problem which robbed it of the opportunity to field candidates in the 2019 general elections in the state.
A Port Harcourt High Court had delivered a judgment, nullifying the election of Okocha and reinstated Emeka Bekee as the duly elected state chairman of the party.
But the national secretariat of the party, discountenanced the judgment and clung to Okocha, who is an ally of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Yet again, another high court order, halted the just concluded ward and local government congressses of the party in the state, but the party ignored the order.
In his post -election speech, Okocha vowed to unseat Governor Siminalayi Fubara in 2027, describing the current administration as rudderless.
The congress also saw the election of new leaders, with Okocha promising to deliver the party into government in 2027.
The National Vice Chairman (South South) of the party, Victor Giadom and Senator Magnus Abe, attended the congress.
