A brutal clash between two rival cult groups has left a man seriously injured in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State. The unidentified victim is currently in critical condition, receiving urgent medical treatment to save his life.
Sources reveal that the incident occurred in Oteri community, where a violent confrontation reportedly erupted between members of the Eiye and Maphite cult groups. Although details are still emerging, the conflict is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over a female companion, allegedly linked to a member of one of the cult groups.
This latest clash highlights a disturbing trend of cult-related violence in Ughelli North. Just weeks ago, two brothers from opposing cult groups clashed over leadership positions in Agbarha-Otor community, leading to the arrest of one member, known as Calypso, during the violent altercation.
An anonymous source explained, “The fight began when a Maphite cult member had a disagreement with a non-cultist over a girl. The non-cultist involved his brother, who is part of the Eiye group, escalating the conflict.”

The leadership of Oteri-Ughelli community is reportedly attempting to mediate peace between the rival groups. “Community leaders are working to calm tensions and restore order, hoping for a resolution between the two confraternities,” the source added.
Despite multiple attempts, calls to the President General of the community for further comments went unanswered.
This incident follows several recent cult-related clashes in Ughelli, including a confrontation between the Vikings and Eiye confraternities in the Otovwodo Iwhreovie area. Despite ongoing security meetings and interventions by local authorities, cult violence remains a persistent issue in the region.
The Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Ademola Adebayo, has previously held several high-level security meetings, attended by the Ughelli North Local Government Council Chairman, in efforts to curb the violence and ensure peace in the community.
