The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has felicitated Christians across the country on the celebration of Easter, urging Nigerians to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, love and unity while calling on the federal government to take decisive steps to address worsening insecurity.

In a goodwill message jointly signed by Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda; Deputy Minority Leader, Ali Isa J.C.; Minority Whip, George Ozodinobi; and the Deputy Minority Whip, the caucus described Easter as a period that symbolises hope, sacrifice and redemption.

The lawmakers noted that the conclusion of the Lenten season offers a spiritual foundation for moral renewal, urging Nigerians to sustain the discipline and selflessness imbibed during the period.

“This sacred period, defined by sacrifice and redemption, serves as a powerful reminder of the victory of hope over despair; a message that resonates deeply in our country,” the statement read.

The caucus stressed the need for Nigerians to internalise the lessons of Lent, adding that genuine national transformation must begin with personal integrity and individual character.

It also underscored the importance of love, forgiveness and compassion, especially as the country continues to grapple with socio-economic and political challenges.

“In these trying times, there is a pressing need for a deliberate recommitment to the core tenets of Easter.

“These enduring values must bridge our divides and inspire a collective responsibility toward building a more equitable and harmonious society,” the lawmakers said.

However, the caucus expressed concern over the persistent insecurity across the country, particularly in Plateau State and Benue State, where killings and kidnappings have continued unabated.

It described the situation as a grave threat to national peace and unity, urging the Federal Government to go beyond rhetoric and adopt coordinated strategies to tackle the menace.

“Renewed killings and kidnappings, especially in the North-Central, remain a stain on our national conscience that cannot be ignored,” the statement added.

The lawmakers called for the empowerment of security agencies to decisively dismantle criminal networks, stressing that there should be no compromise in confronting threats to lives and property.

They also urged religious leaders and citizens to continue praying for the country and its leadership, noting that Nigeria requires purposeful and courageous leadership to navigate its current challenges.

The caucus further called on Nigerians to rise above divisive tendencies and embrace unity and tolerance, expressing hope that the Easter season would serve as a catalyst for national renewal and reconciliation.

“Easter symbolises the promise of new beginnings. We enjoin all citizens to embrace unity and work towards building a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria,” the statement said.
