The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has condemned the recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed 23 lives and left 108 others injured.
The caucus, in a statement jointly signed by its leaders, described the coordinated explosions as “gruesome” and “deeply disturbing,” noting that the attacks occurred at a time residents were engaged in their daily activities.
Signatories to the statement include the Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda; Minority Whip, Rep. Ali Isa; Deputy Minority Leader, Rep. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip, Rep. George Ozodinobi.
According to the lawmakers, the triple explosions, reportedly carried out by suspected suicide bombers, occurred simultaneously at the Main Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover.

“The caucus is very sad and pained that the triple explosions happened at a time when residents were going about their lawful and legitimate businesses,” the statement read.
The caucus expressed further concern that the attacks were carried out during the periods of Ramadan and Lent, describing the timing as a clear disregard for both Islam and Christianity.
While commiserating with the families of the victims and the government and people of Borno State, the caucus called on the Federal Government to take immediate action.
Specifically, the lawmakers urged the government to direct the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide enhanced medical care and humanitarian support to the victims.
They also called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attacks are apprehended and brought to justice.
The caucus further stressed the need for improved coordination among security agencies to strengthen surveillance and safeguard lives and property in Maiduguri and across the state.
“As a responsible and responsive group of lawmakers, the caucus promises to pursue legislative actions, where necessary, towards finding realistic solutions to these negative developments,” the statement added.
