The House of Representatives has paid tribute to officers and personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, commending their bravery and dedication while honouring those who lost their lives in the defence of Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued on Thursday to commemorate the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, and signed by the House spokesperson, Rep. Akin Rotimi, lawmakers praised the courage, discipline and unwavering commitment of Nigerian troops serving across various operational fronts.
The House acknowledged that military personnel continue to battle terrorism, banditry and other security threats under challenging and often life-threatening conditions, while also providing critical support to other security agencies nationwide.
“Their sacrifice and devotion to duty merit more than symbolic appreciation; they deserve enduring national support for the peace and freedom they help to preserve,” the statement said.

Lawmakers also recognised the vital role played by the families of service members, noting that they share in the sacrifices and hardships associated with military service.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, lauded the Federal Government’s decision to redesignate the event as Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, describing it as a thoughtful blend of honouring fallen heroes and celebrating those still in active service.
According to him, the move underscores the importance of remembering those who paid the ultimate price while appreciating officers and men currently safeguarding the nation’s security and sovereignty.
The House reaffirmed its resolve to support initiatives, legislation and oversight measures aimed at enhancing the welfare, operational capacity and professionalism of the Armed Forces.
The lawmakers concluded by offering prayers for fallen heroes and urging Nigerians to draw inspiration from their selfless service by promoting unity, patriotism and civic responsibility.
