The House of Representatives has congratulated Muslims across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan fast, while urging citizens to embrace unity and compassion in the face of the country’s deepening socio-economic and security challenges.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the House spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, the lawmakers said Eid-el-Fitr represents more than a religious celebration, stressing that it should serve as a reminder of the need for collective responsibility and national cohesion.
The House noted that the Ramadan period, observed with fasting, prayers and charity, underscores values such as self-restraint, generosity and empathy for the vulnerable, adding that Nigerians must translate these virtues into actions that promote social stability and national development.
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, in his goodwill message, expressed optimism that prayers offered during Ramadan would herald a better phase for the country.
He acknowledged Nigeria’s prevailing economic hardship, insecurity and political tensions, but maintained that divine mercy has sustained the nation through difficult times.

According to him, Nigerians must remain steadfast in prayers and collective efforts towards building a more stable and prosperous society.
“In the past 30 days, Muslims across the country and the world have devoted themselves to spiritual reflection and عبادah. We pray that Allah accepts all acts of worship and rewards the faithful abundantly,” the Speaker said.
The House, however, stopped short of outlining any concrete legislative measures to address the worsening living conditions many Nigerians continue to face, instead reiterating its commitment to constitutional responsibilities.
It wished Muslims a peaceful Eid celebration, urging renewed commitment to unity, family values and national progress.
