The House of Representatives is set to hold a one-day public hearing on three strategic bills aimed at strengthening agricultural development and food security in Nigeria.
A statement issued on Sunday by the House spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., said the hearing organized by the House Committee on Agricultural Production and Services, will take place on Monday, October 13, 2025, by 10:00 a.m.
He said the public hearing is open to the public and key stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, in line with the 10th Assembly’s legislative agenda, which prioritizes economic diversification and food security.
The bills slated for consideration are a bill to amend the National Agricultural Development Fund (Establishment) Act, the bill to establish the National Farm Settlements Agency, to promote agricultural development, food security, and agro-industrial growth, and the bill to establish the National Rice Production, Processing and Research Institute in Argungu, Kebbi State.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Bello Ka’oje, said the public hearing is designed to provide a balanced platform for expert and stakeholder input, ensuring that all legislative actions reflect the realities of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
“This hearing demonstrates the House’s belief that agricultural reform must be shaped by the voices of farmers, researchers, and industry players whose experiences drive real impact,” Rep. Ka’oje said.
“Our goal is to ensure that whatever proposals advance are those that truly serve the national interest.”
Rep. Rotimi emphasized that the 10th House remains committed to transparent, participatory lawmaking and to leveraging the legislative process as a tool for inclusive growth, job creation, and national development.
