The House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions is set to hold a public hearing on Monday, May 19, 2025, to consider 11 critical bills aimed at expanding Nigeria’s agricultural education, research, and entrepreneurship infrastructure.
The hearing, which will take place at Conference Room 023, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, is scheduled to commence by 11:00 am prompt.
Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Isiaq Akinlade, described the initiative as a vital step towards achieving food security, institutional growth, rural development, and innovation in agricultural education.
“This hearing demonstrates the House’s commitment to inclusive and transformative lawmaking that prioritizes food security, skills development, institutional strengthening, and research innovation within the agricultural education sector,” Rep. Akinlade stated.
The bills for consideration are the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Rabah, Sokoto State; Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry, Oban Akamkpa, Cross River State; National Institute for Agricultural Research and Entrepreneurship, Owode, Ogun State and the Federal College of Agriculture, Igbeti, Oyo State.

Others are Federal College of Agriculture, Urhonigbe, Edo State; Fisheries and Aquatic Studies Research Institute, Darki, Kano State; National Bamboo Research and Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Rivers State; the Federal College of Agriculture and Vocational Studies, Ogbia, Bayelsa State; Federal University of Agriculture, Forestry and Technology, Igbo-Ora, Oyo State; Federal College of Fisheries and Agriculture and Federal University of Agriculture, Akure, Ondo State.
Stakeholders in agriculture and education, civil society organisations, and the general public are invited to participate and provide input during the public hearing.
The session is expected to foster transparency, inclusivity, and alignment with national development goals.
The House of Representatives reiterated its commitment to transparent and accountable legislative processes, especially in driving growth in Nigeria’s agriculture sector through education and research.
