The House of Representatives has approved the restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency in Delta State, following a Supreme Court judgment in Suit No. SC/129/2019.

The motion, titled “Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency, Delta in Compliance with Supreme Court Judgment”, was moved during Thursday’s plenary session by Rt. Hon. Ngozi Lawrence Okolie, who represents the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.

With the approval, the House resolved that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must act swiftly to comply with the resolution. The restoration is set to take effect during the next Delta State House of Assembly election, immediately after the expiration of the current legislative term.

While presenting the motion, Hon. Okolie recalled that as far back as 2014, the people of several communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area, including Idumuje-Unor, Idumuje-Ugboko, Nkwu-Nzu, Ugboba, Idumuogo, Ugbodu, Ubulubu, Anioma, and Ogodo, had approached the Federal High Court in Asaba to challenge what they described as the unjust removal of their constituency from the electoral map.

Their legal battle eventually reached the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of restoring their right to fair and equal representation. The House’s decision is a direct implementation of that ruling.

This development marks a major political victory for the people of Aniocha North and is expected to reshape the political landscape of Delta State. For communities long denied dedicated representation, this is more than just a legal win, it’s a restoration of identity, voice, and democratic inclusion.

The move has sparked celebration across Delta State, with stakeholders, community leaders, and political watchers hailing the decision as long overdue and a win for constitutional order and the rule of law.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, all eyes will be on how this restored constituency will impact the balance of power in the Anioma politics.
