A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Francis Waive, has called on residents of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency of Delta State to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The lawmaker made the appeal on Sunday via his verified Facebook page, expressing concern over what he described as a negligible number of newly registered voters in the constituency.

He reminded his constituents that INEC is currently registering eligible Nigerians, particularly those who have attained the age of 18 since the last general election.

The House of Representatives member stated that the low participation in the voter registration exercise by eligible voters in his constituency is worrisome.

Rep. Waive stressed that voting is a fundamental civic right, while registering to vote is a civic responsibility, urging his constituents not to take the exercise lightly.

He noted that while citizens do not choose the country of their birth, they have a duty to contribute to its development, adding that voter registration is the starting point of meaningful civic participation.

The lawmaker disclosed that efforts were already underway to boost awareness, including the mobilization of town criers to reach grassroots communities, engagement with civil society groups, and the use of social media platforms to target urban populations.

He also said his office had appealed to INEC to extend registration activities to rural areas to ensure wider coverage.

Rep. Waive further clarified that the ongoing exercise also covers residents who have changed their places of residence as well as those who lost their Permanent Voter Cards.

He urged eligible constituents to promptly visit the nearest INEC office to register or update their details, warning that the registration window may not be extended.

Reaffirming his commitment to the constituency, Rep. Waive encouraged all eligible residents to seize the opportunity to be part of the democratic process through active participation in the voter registration exercise.
